About Us

Heritage Restoration, or HRI Group as it has become known, has grown into one of Canada’s most complete restoration companies.
While continuing to operate as a masonry historical restoration contractor, we have developed teams of professionals to provide structural rehabilitation, building envelope and general site works services for newer buildings and infrastructure.

Together, our three divisions offer one of Canada’s most comprehensive sets of restoration services. We are well equipped to streamline small, simple projects, or to tackle large, complex challenges.

HRI continues to focus on what has brought us success: quality workmanship, efficient use of resources, accountability, building relationships, and providing a safe working environment for all of our employees.

HRI is a dynamic, forward looking company which places an emphasis on elements of construction that will move the industry forward.
Some examples of this include:

In 2019, we fully transitioned to an app-based system for all site safety and administration paperwork as a going green initiative to reduce paper usage.

In 2019, we began quarterly meetings geared toward furthering education and generating employee feedback to help make the company more efficient and create a better working environment.

Moving forward, we plan to implement an internal training program that will offer apprentice employees the opportunity to practice trade skills at our central office.

We are extremely excited about our future, as we believe we have a unique ability to handle large-scale projects, while also providing the expertise and customer service that people appreciate from a family owned and operated business.
For us, it truly is about providing a service that will leave clients with no doubt, regarding their decision to move forward with us as the contractor for their project.

History of HRI Group

Heritage Restoration Inc. (HRI Group) is proudly a Canadian, family owned and operated business that has been restoring heritage buildings and structures across Ontario for over a century.

In 1921, Alfred W. Huntley, founded Huntley Chimney Service—a residential chimney repair company, which serviced clients’ needs throughout the Toronto area. In 1926, Alfred W. formed Huntley Steeple Jack Co. and began expanding into larger commercial rigging and rehabilitation projects. Finally, in 1955, after over 30 years of restoring homes and buildings in what is now known as the Greater Toronto Area, Alfred passed his businesses onto his son Kenneth.

Kenneth continued to grow the companies, eventually uniting them as Heritage Restoration Inc., in 1969. Kenneth operated the company while educating and training his two sons, as his father did for him, for over 30 years. In 1998, Kenneth passed the company onto his two sons—Bruce and Alfred—who had taken on operating and managing the company while working with their father. Throughout the early 2000’s, Bruce and Alfred pushed the company to new heights, taking on and completing more numerous and prestigious projects for a larger and more reputable client base.

In 2011, at only 55 years old, Alfred tragically passed away. Bruce’s eldest son Chris, who was working in the company at this time, took a more prominent role to help ensure the continued success of the business. In 2012, Bruce’s other son Clay graduated post-secondary and joined the company full time. Over the next 7 years the brothers enthusiastically carried forward the family business. In 2019, a fourth generation—led by brothers Chris and Clay —officially took charge of the business and looked to carry it forward with emphasis on the traditional values that their great-grandfather employed when he started the company over a century ago.

Today, the company has expanded into both Atlantic and Western Canada with offices in Halifax and Calgary, to better service the firms national client base.  Also, in 2025 the firm underwent a rebranding to bring all the companies under a single name HRI Group.   With the same principals started over 100 years ago, HRI is continuing to place itself as one of the top and most versatile restoration contractors in Canada for another century to come.
